The US secretary of state in an address at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, has told African diplomats to urge their leaders to abandon Gaddafi and expel pro-Gaddafi diplomats in their countries and isolate the “brother leader”.
Africa surely will not abandon the Libyan leader. Why would we? Gaddafi is not only a hero among African leaders alone but is widely admired and hailed all across Africa and still does.
Africans know that the very imperialists powers now bombing and destroying Libya are no angels. We know that these imperialists subjected Africans to more than 400 years of slavery, brutality and inhuman treatment.
We know that these same imperialists robbed Africa through hundreds of years of colonialism and are still robbing Africa through neo-colonialist policies such as the French colonial pact.
We know that these same crusaders masterminded the removal or killings of progressive leaders in Africa such as Dr. Kwame Nkrumah of Ghana (American CIA), Thomas Sankara of Burkina Faso (France), Patrice Lumumbu of Congo (Belgium) and widely supported the Apartheid regime of South Africa and criminalised the ANC and Nelson Mandela who they now consider a hero. They even supported the Apartheid regime to build nuclear weapons but later encouraged its disbandment when the ANC took over. We know that it was because President Robert Mugabe flushed out the white farmers from Zimbabwe that attracted the kind of economic sanctions which the west later blamed on inefficient economic management. We know that these very imperialist through the IMF and World Bank have crippled many African economies.
So why now should Africans trust the west? There can be no trust and Africans will not abandon the brother leader who has been unfairly treated by the west just like our past martyrs such as Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Thomas Sankara and all the martyrs who died fighting white supremacy in South Africa and the rest of Africa.
Hillary Clinton, you are just wasting your breath. We know there are some in Africa who really don’t know what is at stake or who are afraid that if they refuse your word, they will lose grants, but we know that for once, African interest will reign high. Ubuntu!!!
